Although we only sat on the sidelines and got there five hours after it began, it was a great show. We were able to park right on the side of the flightline and get some incredible shots.
The differences between the Bay Area and here were illustrated at this show: we were able to park for free, right next the the tarmac and NO ONE bugged us. No cops, no airport employees. Oh yeah, and there was very little crowding.
Of course, there was only one jet, too...
All of these were shot at midday with my Sigma 70-300. Not the most expensive zoom you'll find, but it has surprising image quality. I seldom use long focal lengths, so this lens does quite good for me. On top of that, it has macro capabilities. To be honest, it had a bit of challenge keeping up with the faster planes, even with all the light. Still and all, for the money and for my usage, a really good buy.
I've since replaced it with the truly amazing Canon 70-200/4L IS and to get out to 300mm I add the Canon 1.4x TC. I had the Canon 100-400/4.5-5.6L IS, but sold it as I just don't use long glass as much as I'd hoped. Next on the list is a Canon 300/4L IS which should round out my tele needs.
