Hurricane Dolly at Delta Lake and Victoria Palms Resort - 51 pictures

The Valley hasn't had a hurricane for several years. This one was only up to a catagory 2,
all we can say is that we don't want to ever see anything higher. We were all lucky. Wind and
flood damage but no deaths. My home and my Saturn were blessingly saved from any damage.
I was out of electric from noon Wednesday until Friday night at Victoria Palms. But a few are
still with out power in the Park. Delta Lake was out until Sunday afternoon. Our LOC church at
Weslaco, had only some water damage. They had power most of the time and it was a safe haven
for several families during the storm.

July 22, 2008 the night before Dolly	So beaufiful and peaseful !	Sunset's are always beautiful here.
The calm before the storm.	Jerry is relaxed in the den.	Jerry Shields is relaxed too.
CB Shields is thinking it won't be to bad.	Wednesday morning, July 23, it still was pretty calm.	Jerry Shields is making something special for lunch.
Her very special recipe for Enchiladas	Betty really enjoyed the meal.	"Hello, Dolly"
Dolly, really had the water churning!	The rain and spray from the lake came up on the windows.	The lake kept getting higher and the water started to leak around the big windows.
The eye was coming directly at us	I really wasn't scared.	I just kept taking pictures.
There were more pictures	I think it was downgraded to a catagory 1	Out comes the kerosene lamps.
Cann't believe the land phone still worked.	We said "Goodbye Dolly"	Delta Lake is calm again.
Dolly left a little to be picked up.	The walk to the bridge looks okay.	But the water is almost to the bridge.
Lots of cleaning up to do	This feeder canal looks like a river.	Almost over the Bridge
Jerry Shields looks at the high water.	A butterfly's safe haven in the storm.	Betty on the bridge
Looks like a rainforest picture.	Jerry's van was safe on the far side of the bridge.	We had yet to drive out to the main road.
CB's field had water laying in it.	Water was uo on the roads.	Many fields were full of water.
Main road dry at Victoria Palms Resort	Palm trees leaning on the center walkway.	Jerry's home is still there.
Les & Donna's home is okay	Betsy Sutton had awning damage.	Mobilehome lost it's roof.
Many trees were blown over.	Victoria Palms Swimming Pool	Needs a little clean up.

Hi Cousin, Thanks for sending your pictures. I am so glad you all weathered the storm in good shape. It looks as i f Texas is getting the blunt of Mother nature so far. Great work Betty! Not only are your photos beautiful, but they each tell a story in their own right. You are also a very good story teller, not only with the captions on the pictures, but with the camera itself. What a great job taking the pictures of Dolly - We live in RVE and there was some damage there, a roof or two torn off but everyone was ok that is the main thing. Thanks again

Thanks to James Heineke and Bill Putman we have your photos. We lived at Elsa when Beulah blew through in 1967. We had water up to the doorway, but no damage of any kind. As I recall no lives were lost then. We are glad to hear you and the Valley had the same experience this time.

Hello from the Bedfords in Ohio, thanks for sharing with us the progression of Hurricane Dolly, though we watched it with fear for lal of you via the weather channel from Ohio. We are just happy to hear that no lifes were taken and only material damage was observed. The Shield's did a wonderful job on capturing the pictures for all of us to see as it happened.
