A second straight game-changing late inning ended Sheboygan Post 83's stay at the Class AAA American Legion Baseball State Tournament.
On Saturday, De Pere scored six runs in the eighth inning and won 7-5.
On Sunday, a two-run home run in the seventh inning helped Wisconsin Rapids double its lead and go on to a 4-1 victory.
Sheboygan, eliminated from the double-elimination tournament, finished its season at 23-14.
"That home run was big, a momentum-changer," said Post 83 coach Paul Van Lanen.
Sheboygan had 10 hits in the game, but was unable to come up with a timely one.
"(Sunday) was one of those days where we couldn't string anything together," Van Lanen said.
Starting pitcher Tony Hoitink worked six-plus innings and took the loss.
Van Lanen said the effects of Saturday's loss to De Pere, which erased a 5-1 deficit with its big rally, carried over to Sunday. But Van Lanen was hardly disappointed with his team.
"I think (Saturday's) game took a lot out of us," Van Lanen said. "We played hard (Sunday), and played fairly good baseball.
"For us to get to State was a great accomplishment," he added. "It's a real testament to these kids and how hard they worked to get better throughout the summer."
