Best Sleeping Bag for Bikepacking: REI Co-op Trailbreak 30 Review

The $100 Trailbreak 30 is a three-season mummy bag that’s built for backpacking and has many factors to make it appealing as an affordable alternative. This is also the best sleeping bag for bikepacking that I know of!

For those who want to take their sleeping quarters on the go, this bag is an excellent choice. The low weight and packability are great features but we didn't quite enjoy how uncomfortable it felt inside due in large part because there wasn’t much insulation or warmth compared with other options out there at higher prices point - which would have made them more costly overall if you're looking primarily for comfort when bedding down outdoors during winter months!

Our Verdict

With its reasonable price, tough durability and light weight the REI Trailbreak 30 is perfect for breaking out of town into hills. There are plenty smaller sleeping bags on sale but no one else provides these necessary specs at such low cost!

If you're looking for a sleeping bag that can do it all, look elsewhere. But if weight and price are your priorities then we think the Trailbreak 30 makes sense as an affordable option - just don't expect any bells or whistles!

Our Analysis and Test Results

We've tested more than twenty budget sleeping bags from a wide variety of manufacturers. Most slept poorly in backpacking conditions and advertised as ideal for the task - but we found that most were not suitable at all!

The REI Trailbreak 30 provides comfort and warmth for most people who use it, but its main drawback is that it's not as light or compact than other sleeping bags on the market.

Performance Comparison

Warmth

The Long Trailbreak 30 is a great bag for winter camping with its 1 lb 5 oz of water-resistant polyester insulation. However, it's unfortunate that this same whole cloth weighs 2 lbs 11oz and accounts only represent less than half the overall weight in terms or value!

The Trailbreak bag is an attractive option for those who want to save some money and still get the job done. We found that, although it doesn't provide as much warmth compared with other bags at similar temperatures (30F), this product performs well when backpacking in cooler climates or during summer months where you need more clothing options than just pants and shirts alone!

Weight

The Long Trailbreak is a budget-friendly bag, but it still weighs in at 2 pounds. That's more than double the weight of other bags on our list that provide similar levels of warmth! The Regular size REI model weights around 1kg - which isn't bad for something so affordable and efficient about keeping you cozy all winter long.

The Trailbreak sleeping bag is a great choice for those who want to save weight and warmth. This budget-friendly model offers an outstanding value with its performance, but there are some other bags out on the market that weigh less than it does - at least until you pay more money!

Comfort

The Trailbreak 30 is a great choice for those who want to save money. However, the sacrifice in comfort will be hard to take if you are not used to it already and need more time with your family or friends on trips where they don't have room inside themselves anymore because of all that clutter!

We had some problems with the feel of this fabric, which was described by our testers as coarser than most. They also felt frustrated at how elastic drawcords dangle into your bag and irritate their faces!

The interior dimensions of this bag are average. It's 62-inch shoulder girth should provide enough space for moderately large people as long they aren't sensitive to claustrophobia, but once you get towards the foot there isn’t much left - making it less luxurious than some other similar looking ones on the market today!

Packed Size

The Trailbreak has enough room to pack away your gear with the help of our compression sacks. With a little effort, we were able to reduce its volume down so that it can be stored more easily and efficiently than before!

We found it unfortunate that the Trailbreak does not come with its own storage or compression sack. Instead, they ship inside a small but loose bag which is ineffective at releasing either function and too tight for long-term use as well!

We've found that the Trailbreak doesn't work well when stored in its included sack because it could cause premature fiber compression and reduce insulation effectiveness.

The best way to store your bag for long term use is by uncompressing it and storing it in a dry place. If you have limited space, opt instead with one that can be discreetly put away when not needed - like the back of the closet!

Versatility

With a simple design and synthetic insulation, this bag has an edge when it comes to versatility. You can rely on the polyester fibers in them not clumping up like expensive down feathers if they get wet!

The polyester fabric will continue to provide some warmth even in the event you are caught off guard by a heavy downpour.

The Trailbreak is a great jacket for colder weather, but it doesn't include many design features that would make the range of temperatures more extensive. The main zipper runs three-quarters down one side which limits how much heat can escape by putting your feet inoruand means you'll need two jackets if you want extra warmth while sitting around at camp or just taking out some groceries!

The lack of a neck baffle and an effective thermal barrier for the hood on cool nights make this bag less versatile than other options.

Features and Design

The Trailbreak 30 is an excellent bag for the money. It doesn't have all of those fancy features that you might expect from more expensive backpacks, but it does come with a great organizational pocket near its hood!

To make sure you're always prepared for any situation, store your headlamp and smartphone in this zippered pocket. It's close enough that warmth from body heat or clothing will keep them fresh!

Value

The Trailbreak 30 is an affordable sleeping bag that'll suffice for most backpacking situations. Although its performance pales compared to premium bags, this cheaper alternative still provides acceptably warm specs in cold weather conditions with just one additional layer paired up against the outdoors - perfect if you're on a tight budget!

If you're willing to overlook its flaws in terms of weight, comfort and packed size then I believe this product presents a solid value. It could save me some money so that's something else for us both!

Conclusion

Premium down sleeping bags are undoubtedly the best purchase for anyone who plans on going out into nature. They're light and compact, making them perfect when backpacking or camping red adventures! However if you don't use your bag often enough it might be better off with something cheaper like an open-cell material that will provide more durability but also hold onto its warmth less well (though this depends largely upon usage).

For those looking for a budget sleeping bag, the REI Trailbreak 30 may be worth checking out. It's affordable and can supply acceptable performance when it comes to activities like backpacking!
