The Birth of Rock Cities. The sand of the former river deltas and sea
beaches was covered by another layer of sediments. The pressure of the
upper layer and the presence of underground water contributed to the
solidification of the loose material, gradually forming a cohesive
sandstone rock. It was then lifted from the seabed, and the compact slab
was broken into smaller bodies during the mountain building process.
The pulverized rock continued to weather and was carried by water or wind.
Individual blocks of sandstone remain exposed on the slopes to this day,
permanently increasing their relative height. Riverbeds are deepening,
and further elevation of the area occurs in the ongoing Alpine folding.
In the case of tectonic movements, there is not just one fault, but
the wider bend (Muisgat between Tassenice and the Pamdi chemical site).
