Former Theresienstadt (Terezín) concentration camp, which was used by the Nazis
as a ghetto and transit camp during World War II. Theresienstadt was the largest
concentration camp in the Czech Republic. It served as a collection point and
transit camp for Jews from across Europe, who were then deported to extermination
camps such as Auschwitz and Treblinka. The Nazis used the camp for propaganda, cynically
portraying it as a "health resort" for elderly Jews to conceal the true nature of the
deportations. However, living conditions were appalling, with overcrowding and little food,
leading to the deaths of thousands of prisoners.
