Noodkist is de populaire benaming van het reliekschrijn van Sint-Servaas, dat zich in de schatkamer van
de Sint-Servaasbasiliek in de Nederlandse stad Maastricht bevindt. De naam 'Noodkist' dankt het schrijn
aan het gebruik om de kist met de relieken van de patroonheilige van Maastricht in tijden van nood in processie
door de stad te dragen. De noodkist en de vier bijbehorende Brusselse pendanten behoren tot de belangrijkste
voorwerpen van middeleeuwse edelsmeedkunst in de Lage Landen.


Noodkist is the popular name for the reliquary of Saint Servatius, which is located in the treasury of
the Basilica of Saint Servatius in the Dutch city of Maastricht. The shrine owes its name to 'Noodkist'
to the use of the coffin with the relics of the patron saint of Maastricht in a procession in times of need
to carry through the city. The emergency box and the four corresponding Brussels pendants are among
the most important objects of medieval goldsmithing in the Low Countries.
