--- Würzburg is a Kreisfreie Stadt in the northwest of the German state of Bavaria. The city is located on the river Main and is the capital of the Regierungsbezirk Lower Franconia (Unterfranken).
--- The city has 126,954 inhabitants on an area of 87.63 km². This makes it the fifth largest city in Bavaria in terms of population. The city is known for the laboratory where Wilhelm Röntgen discovered X-rays
--- and for the baroque Prince-Episcopal Residence of Würzburg, which has been on the World Heritage List since 1981.
--- The university of Würzburg, the Julius-Maximilians-Universität, was founded in 1402 and is the oldest in Bavaria. About a fifth of the city's inhabitants are students, especially at this university.
--- Würzburg is located at the northernmost point of the Romantic Road.
