A puddle of blood marks the place where Herbert Maxis died. RIP!

A sad scene. The black spot below the '13' next to the wing is Herbert Maxis' blood. It marks the area where his body hit the ground. This photo shows that his body has been removed. Most likely he has been hastily burried somewhere. As his dog tags have been taken away he is MIA since then and his death, although there is no doubt has not been accepted by German authorities.

Please take a look at the Jeep parked in the background. Most likely it is the car of Cpt. James Parsons the commander of the 455th A Battery. The car also appears on Jim chandlers photo (#09).

I suppose that if the Jeep is Cpt. Parsons' that he has given order that the dead pilot was removed and buried. It is known that Cpt. Parsons did take the tail wheel and other parts from the site so it seems quite clear that it is his Jeep parked there.
