As a photographer, my role is understandably that of observer. Whatever is captured with the camera immediately becomes documentation of where I’ve been, what I’ve seen, and very often what I’ve done. However, the passion to photograph my world goes far beyond simply capturing a record - it is a passion born of the marriage of what I see, what I feel, and what I hope to share through the image that ultimately is created.
Motorcycles are more than a mode of transportation, an evolutionary statement of machismo, or a badge of bad-assness. There is grace and elegance in their exquisite forms and lean lines that transcends far beyond a mere three-dimensional vision. Though they roar down the road in their demand for attention, they also compel the observer to take a more intimate look – not only at the gleaming machine screaming by, but inwardly at what compels our fascination. A personal observation has been that, for me, nearly every square inch of a bike begs to be touched. My way of touching is through photography – hoping to caress the coolness of chrome, stroking the stretches of stainless steel, strategically interrupted by lengths of liquid-like leather. By capturing the whole, as well as the parts, I have an opportunity to relive that tactile longing. There is an undeniably sensuous aspect to these mechanical beauties that I feel comes not only from the limber union of materials used to create them, but also from the passionate spirit of the artistic designers, who obviously hope to move riders as much as they move any observer.
