Ahhh, "Love is in the Air" for the mature male desert tarantulas (10 years old or so), as they ramp up their seasonal search for a mate. Unfortunately, for the males, once they have shared their DNA, their value to the females usually changes to being that of a food source. What a sacrifice. This is one species where the females have nearly twice the lifespan, frequently living until 20 years of age.
