I was so very sad coming across this dead Desert Gray Fox. :-( I've been exploring some pretty remote areas of desert mountains, but this little guy was down the road from a line shack that is used a few times a year by some "recreationists." I use the term lightly because though some of them honestly seem to care about where they are, a great majority (by the looks of what they leave behind) seem to only come up there to shoot their guns and drink copious amounts of alcohol. My fear is that this fox got in the sights of a drunken, gun-wielding idiot who thought it would be great fun to use this amazing desert creature for target practice. My heart hurt when I found him - right on the dirt road. If he had been the prey of larger natural hunters, he wouldn't have been whole like I found him, but rather would have been eaten and his remains scattered far and wide.
