1/1/2009 - Peek-a-Whoo

Hard to know "Hoo" you'll run into when visiting Radnor Lake State Park, Nasvhille, TN. This Barred Owl peeks from behind its perch along the trail.

I like this one - something about the overall balance that makes it my favorite

Glad to have your take on the crop, Phil ... I thought about it when I first worked on this photo and considered that leaving the woodsy context would possibly make the peek a bit more surprising. I've done several different crops around the "peek" and realize that I like Crop #4 the best - mainly because the owl becomes more abstracted and truly does represent the peeking around the tree to check out what this little photographer was up to. ;-)

The concept is strong, Nancy -- the abstracted head and eye are illuminated by your clever title. Try cropping the image to stress the peek, removing much of the woodsy context in the process. In this case, the image is about the peek, rather than the setting, so frame accordingly and see how you like it.
