Fox Squirrel. The largest squirrel in this "neck-of-the-woods" and in many ways the rarest to see on a regular basis. This particular one is very weary of people and bounds away across a field to the safety of dense underbrush and dead trees. And with good reason; back in the 30s, 40s, and 50s the Fox Squirrel was almost hunted out for the large foxlike tail and the generous portion of meat of this larger Alabama species of the Sciuridae Family.
