The "hummers" are a little late this season and much fewer in number for the later part of June. Hopefully their flight across the Gulf of Mexico and rest period in the Mobile Bay area was not negatively impacted by the massive crude oil release by the BP oilwell. While the Gulf area will need to endure 30 plus years of environmental damage and economic damage/harm....maybe this is the first sign of the future with such a low number of hummers migrating from South/West of the Gulf to North Alabama and beyond.
Well my Hummingbird Visitors have left for their annual trip South across the Gulf Of Mexico. Actually the majority of them left a day after the cold front arrived...but one brave little hummer waited to leave around six A.M. this morning while it was just daylight and not enough light to take a parting photograph. But, as they say down in Auburn Country "wait until next year" and they return to BeauxPoint for that five-star treatment in 2011.
