One of the most enjoyable pleasures of life is my visit to this small town that borders a portion of the National Smoky Mountains Park and Refuge.
For a long long time (over 20 years) Halloween has been a special time in this now tourist town. First few years this celebration involved candy for the kids, a time for merchants to thank the community shoppers, and the rural young people to come into town late at night and have "egg" fights via pickup trucks. As time went on the eggs were discontinued and all people (natives and tourists put on costumes and enjoyed the youngsters getting the candy.
It seems that except of tired infants, the atmosphere is always pleasant with all people enjoying themselves with no anger or discord among any native or visitor. In short one day of the year when good cheer is evident amount crowed locations and politeness is the order of the day. I hope you enjoy these snapshots of a costume day, a free candy day, and unfortunately a very hot day due to the lack of rain and Fall breezes.
