Tuning the Piano

We have an old Aldrich upright with number 108370.
It was probably build in the early thirties.
It's really solid and well built, all wood and metal with ivory keys that show lots of wear and tear.
Well this old gal was badly out of tune so we finally got it tuned.
As a piano ages I learned you can't tune it back to perfect pitch or you risk putting too much pressure on a string.
That might cause it to break.
Instead the recommendation was to tune the piano so it is in pitch with itself.
That's what was done here.
The Piano tuner used an Apple iPad app, which whirled away as he pounded the keys and adjusted the strings, octave after octave until the job was done.

It was fascinating to watch this juxtaposition of the old and the new.
