Built in 1901 out of bricks baked locally, the courthouse is still in use today.
A note: Wheeler County is internationally known for its fossils. Its history is rich with geology and archaeology and even has a county seat name to match.
Fossil is on the way to the world-famous John Day Fossil Beds National Monument.
