The great Triple Crown Winner, Secretariat, was born and raised here on Meadow Farm in Caroline County on March 30, 1970.
Secretariat had to be put down on October 4, 1989 due to laminitis, a painful condition of the hoof and at that time, incurable. He's buried at Claiborne Farm in Paris, Kentucky beside his sire, Bold Ruler. His dam, Somethingroyal (who never raced) is buried here at The Meadow.

The tradition is to bury only the head, the heart, and the legs of a racing horse, but Secretariat was given the ultimate honor by being buried whole, just like Man O' War.
