I visited the former Harlingen Naval Air Station where the original working model for the Iwo Jima statue is proudly on display.
At the U.S. Marine Corps Museum I met a gentleman who was a veteran of the Battle of Iwo Jima and had the opportunity to talk with him and other veterans who were volunteering their time at the site. One of my uncles was a Seabee sent to Iwo Jima after the battle ended.

Today was the 229th birthday of the U.S. Marine Corps.
