The River Walk is a set of stone pathways that meander alongside the San Antonio River for 21 blocks. The river itself is below street level so you have to go down stairways to reach the paths. Many outdoor restaurants and shops line the pathways.
It was designed by Robert Hugman and has 31 stairways and 35 bridges and was built by the WPA between 1935 and 1941.
Today it's an important part of downtown life and well worth a visit.
