John O. Meusebach led 120 Germans to this spot in the Hill Country and named it for Prince Frederick of Prussia. He created a treaty with the Commanches living in the area and it turned out to be the only treaty between Whites and Native Americans in Texas to not be violated by either side.
Many descendants still live in the town and the German influence is evident throughout the community.
