Stork's Nest

one block south of El Charro on N. Court

Tucson's first maternity ward. First noted after the 1883 fire as an adobe building with an attached ramada,
Today it houses the Southwest Parks and Monuments Office.

I was born at the Stork's Nest September 5, 1930. My home faced the Catalina foothills. I attended Davidson Elementary, Catalina Jr. High and Tucson High School. The area I lived in was called Binghampton, but people nowadays don't know that area by that name. Its just part of Tucson now. I have a question, is this picture the way the building looks today? Do you know if there are any pictures of how it looked when it was "The Stork's Nest"? My daughters and I plan a trip to see that building after the first of the new year. Thank you for sharing this information!

I was born at The Stork's Nest in July, 1944, and still reside in Tucson. I attended Amphitheater District schools and graduated from the U of A. I have met several people during my life who were also born at The Stork's Nest, and I always feel an instant friendship with them, due to the "exclusivity" that this private maternity hospital's time period of operation allowed.

The Storks Nest was built around the turn of the century. The couple who bought it after it was the Storks Nest (the Aspell's) had the original building remodeled into apartments and had the hipped roof changed to a flat roof by Josias Joesler, the famed Tucson architect, who also designed their home in the Catalina Foothills.

I was born at Storks Nest, sept 1,1937 and have been curious for years as to where it was located. Thanks to your website I now know where it is and will stop by the next time we are in Tucson. We run a small cattle ranch south of Sonoita that my grandfather started in the early 1900s.

Yes, my birth certificate states that I was one of the last born in the Storks Nest, Sept. 1946. Interested in site for those born there.

Personally I've not heard of this group but perhaps you could contact those who have posted a note here in hopes they know about it and how to join.

I was told there is a Society for those born at the Storks Nest. I was born there in 1938 and my sister born there in 1936 . I have several friends who were born there also and we are interested in knowing how to get into it.

I have traveled to Tucson on several occasions in the past 10 years and have been unable to find the Stork's Nest. Both my sister (1926) and My self (1933) were born there. My niece found this web site and sent me the URL. I'll be sure to look for it again on my next visit.

I was the only one of four kids in my family born at the Stork's Nest. All others at St. Mary's. I never knew where it was until I found your web site. Many thanks, I will drive by our next trip to Tucson.

Dear Peg Price . . . I am thoroughly enjoying your wonderful website. Your photos are excellent. Thanks for saving these images for posterity. I was born at the Stork's Nest on March 15, 1934. I attended Roskruge Elementary, Roosevelt Elementary, Government Heights Elementary, Wakefield Junior High, and Tucson Senior High School, graduating in 1952. I married my high school sweetheart, Mary Ann Siat, at St. John's Catholic Church (corner of Ajo Road and South Twelfth) in 1956. We will soon celebrate our 50 years together. We left Tucson in 1964. We now live in Southern Oregon in the small town of Rogue River. --William P. Graham
