Fort Apache Historic Park

Fort Apache is on the White Mountain Apache Tribe-Fort Apache Indian Reservation approximately 4 miles south of White River, AZ. It was from this military fort that the US Army and White Mountain Apache scouts pursued Cochise and Geronimo. In later years Fort Apache was home to the Buffalo Soldiers. It ceased being a military fort in 1922 and became a home for boarding school for Navaho and then Apache children.
Established on 16 May 1870, Fort Apache is on the National Register of Historic Places. Since 1870 over 100 of the original buildings have been lost to fire.
