Why a page just for monk seals? Cuz they're so darn cute! They're like our little Olaf but with flippers instead of paws. We swear Olaf is really a monk seal in a beagle body. They bark the same way, they squirm and wiggle almost identically and they both sleep like there's no tomorrow. Does he do tricks? no. Does he balance a ball on his nose? no. Does he do anything entertaining? no. see? Just like Olaf.
The Hawaiian Monk Seal is endemic to the islands (found nowhere else in the world) and are an endangered species. Their estimated population is between 1200 and 1500. Full grown, they can grow to over 700 pounds! We're guessing this one was a young'un.
One of them wiggled his widdle way up onto our beach in front of our condo and just snoozed while people yammered, snapped pictures, honked horns and Ooooh'd and Aaah'd. He was that cute. We'd adopt him but he doesn't fit in the overhead compartment on the plane.
