In memory of the crew of the St. Annes Lifeboat who lost their lives in a gallant attempt to rescue the crew of the German Barque, 'Mexico' 9th December 1880. All bar 2 members of the Southport Lifeboat lost their lives in the same attempt. The Lytham lifeboat eventually effected the rescue.
