Old Tram

These old open top single deck trams are a feature at Blackpool, there are also some double deckers with open tops as well. They run from the southern boundary of Blackpool, right up to Fleetwood, a distance of about 13-14 miles, more or less along the sea shore for a lot of that journey.

There are also a number of 'illuminated trams' that have been built in the shape of locomotives, rockets etc, these also get used, and really come into their own during the annual Blackpool Illuminations which is basically a festival of electricity and electric lighting which is used to artificially extend the tourist season right up until November. Its a great show for the kids.

In the background you can see part of Blackpool Pleasure Beach, the largest permanent funfair in Europe, the 'dipper' that you can see is 'The Big One' which when it was built was also the highest big dipper in the world.

A typical British seaside scene - fashions aside, this could have been taken any time in the past sixty years...some things never change, do they? Great shot Bernard, like it lots...now, where's my 'Kiss me Quick' hat???
