Nov 5

30 Days of November - "A cup I drank from today" and Day 5 of My Personal 30 Days in Manual Mode Challenge!

I'm not a coffee drinker and rarely drink tea. I do enjoy diet soda, however, and water. This cup is part of my past. I used to work for Hewlett-Packard which acquired Compaq in the early 2000's. One day they were cleaning out a storage area and gave away stacks of these cups. A small number made their way into my kitchen.

I have a few cups like that but they aren't Compaq. They are great because you can use them over and over again and they won't break and they are cheap! Usually free! :)

A nostalgic mug! I'm also a non-coffee drinker.

A bit more history for J. Scott. HP also bought Texas Instruments computer service department, years before Compaq. I still have several former TI friends. HP's NonStop division was Compaq's Himalaya which was Tandem NonStop which was formed in 1974 by... you guessed it... renegade HP employees!

I worked with/for Brenda at HP.

We had a big Compaq (now HP) here in Houston. Lots of friends worked there over the years. Love the cup... nostalgic!

A bit of history. Funny story is that the guys that started Compaq worked for Texas Instruments and presented them with the idea of PC production. The TI company execs didn't see that as a profitable venture and decided these renegades needed to be relieved of their duties. They walked and started the company that became Compaq and made off quite well when they sold to HP. Now HP says they are getting out of that market...
