May Challenge: Memories

I grew up in a rural area. There were many farms around us
(we lived on the edge of town and didn't farm).
Some of the farms grew fruit (apples, cherries, peaches) and
others grew vegetables for Birds' Eye and canning factories.
During harvest, the large trucks would go by the house filled to nearly
overflowing. There was no stop sign at the end of our road and the trucks
would careen around the corner and sometimes spill some of their contents.
I can only remember brussel sprouts but when the truck went by, my brother
and I would run to the end of the road to pick up the stalks that had
fallen and bring them home to my mother to cook.
