This is a shed skin of a snake. The head end is up here. The 'disruption' in the middle is the
snake's vent. The double row of scales below (after) the vent indicates that this is a
non-venomous snake. If it had been a venomous snake the scales would continue
as a single row as those above (ahead) of the vent - at least for pit-vipers
in North America.
I suspect this is the skin from my 7 foot black rat snake that lives by the house.
