Hal died about a week before this. A gang of us wanted to do something
to honor him at our grassy spot by Lake Hartwell that has been our outdoor meeting
place since COVID. We went through a number of ideas but a Viking funeral quickly
rose to the surface. Cecil, the engineer among us, fashioned a 'Viking ship'. A
beer bottle cap on a raised platform was in the ship surrounded by sawdust. The
The shields along the sides bore the ESSO Club logo. The worm from the bottom
of a bottle of mezcal, which we passed around the group until it was empty, was
placed on the bottle cap (in lieu of Hal). The ship was set a light and pushed
into the waters of Lake Hartwell.
So long friend.
