A bewildering variety of colors and patterns on a moth species caterpillar feeding on Caesalpinia pulcherrima (Mexican Bird of Paradise). All of the feeding is on flowers, buds, and pods, I saw no leaf feeding. They are like fingerprints...no two alike. Location is Alamogordo, NM.
You got a Heliothine Ncotuid, maybe even the ubiquitous "corn earworm" Helicoverpa zea, or maybe one of the common Heliothis species virescens or subflexa. Check Wagner's caterpillar guide. All of these arepolyphagous on flowers, buds and fruits of herbaceous plants.
