Willi Boskovsky (1909-1991)
Willi Boskovsky enjoyed great international popularity, which he achieved primarily as Clemens Krauss's successor as conductor of the Vienna Philharmonic's New Year's Eve and New Year's Concerts from 1955 to 1979.
Boskovsky conducted these concerts, like Johann Strauss, with the violin in his hand (a standing violin). Since 1959, the New Year's Concerts have been broadcast to all continents via Eurovision. Boskovsky thus helped the orchestra achieve worldwide popularity.
