Tiny Shrine

Kichijoji, Tokyo

Of course there are many large shrines in Japan.
But there are also very many of these tiny shrines scattered around.
This one is in a small gap between houses and probably dates back to when the area was rice fields.
It is still carefully looked-after by local people who leave offerings and make their prayers.

I love the idea of tiny shrines. Everyday reminders of holiness.
