Transit Telescope

Edinburgh

This telescope dates from 1831 and is still in its original position at the City Observatory, on Calton Hill, Edinburgh.
It is an 8.3ft Fraunhofer-Repsold transit telescope used for accurate timekeeping by observing the transit of stars.
