Women cleaning lungfish throw the offal into the Nile where pigs eat it. Rinsing fish in this kind of polluted water makes the fish much more contaminated, not less. The United Nations and a consortium of other partners has built a cleaning station a short distance from the river where, if clean water were available, would create much more sanitary conditions and the fish would be in much better, safer for sale to consumers.
