There is a Close of Service conference toward the end of the Peace Corps two-year tour of duty which helps volunteers become Americans again. We were warned that it wouldn't be easy (it wasn't) and that when people ask you about it, their attention span will be about 45 seconds before their eyes glaze over. Some people will never understand why you did what you did and how it could possibly make the world a slightly better place. This hurts a lot when those people are the ones you love.
