A look at the various types of (often vintage) buses still being operated between 2009 and 2011. Most of the 'yellow' buses were withdrawn, en masse, after July 2nd 2011, to be replaced the following day by, in the main, new, modern, low floor, low emission models, operated by ARRIVA under contract to the Maltese Government. One doubts whether the new vehicles will be able to give anything like the years of service that most of the previous fleet gave, particularly in view of the distressed condition of much of the island's road network. Perhaps the money would have been better spent in the first instance on road re-surfacing and repairs.
