This marker is beside the original boundary post that marked the Cherokee Nation and the State of Kansas. The marker and post are in a forested area along the Arkansas River, hidden from most of the world. As you can see, the marker is fighting the ravages of flooding along the river. Few people ever see this place, most in this area don't even know it exists. It eventually helped mark the line from which the Indian Territory was opened for settlement, the event known as the Cherokee Land Rush. There is a museum in Arkansas City, KS dedicated to the history of the area and the land rush, it was quite an event, and a turning point in history for this area.
