A taxi took us to our accommodation, which we knew was an apartment in an historic 17th C building in the central city. It was one of several in the old building, entered up steps from the street, through a locked iron gate and then through a solid wooden door. We needed three keys to access this apartment but really enjoyed the experience. It was well appointed and comfortable, except for the steep winding stone stairs inside to the upper floor where the bedroom and bathroom were. Two very old churches were built into the sides of the apartment block, which, we were told had some connection to Christopher Columbus, whose elaborate tomb is in the Seville Cathedral.
It happened to be the Easter Holy Week, bringing many spectators into the centre of the city to watch massive holy processions, with hooded penitents, candle carriers, solemn bands and precious gilded "pasos" (floats).
