These can be an intriguing sight to see. Mailboxes (we traditionally call them letter-boxes) in the Australian countryside and outback can be anything at all in which the postman can safely put mail and parcel deliveries. Farms and farmhouses are on large acreages and usually down long driveways or unsealed roads. The mail vans do not venture down to every house entrance or farm gate and often several properties set up a collected mail point on one of the main roads.
The owners apparently make an art form out of "anything will do".
