Time spent in Lindau on Lake Constance (German: Bodensee) gave us a chance to view this beautiful lake from Lindau itself, which has the old town on a small island linked to the mainland by a causeway, but also to take boat trips to other parts of the lake.

We took a pleasant cruise down the lake to Meersburg, a landmark on Lake Constance joining the throng of people walking uphill to the Meersburg Castle where we toured the castle - Germany's oldest inhabited castle and presented with most rooms displayed extremely well. Later that day we continued by boat to the Island of Mainau where a pink and white palace is set in beautifully landscaped gardens and views extend across the lake.
