Kyoto

We arrived in Kyoto by bullet train and were thankful to have caught views of snow capped Mt Fuji on the way. Kyoto impressed us as a stunning mix of old and new Japan. It was formerly Japan's Imperial Capital and with 17 UNESCO World Heritage sites it is among the world's most culturally rich cities. Five days were not enough to explore all sites; many were an easy walk from each other and close to the city centre but excellent train services and city buses assisted our sight-seeing further away in Nara and Arashiyama. We spent one day travelling to Hiroshima, a moving and most worthwhile experience and departed Japan at last from the super modern Kansai Airport outside Osaka.
