Toys now, as souvenirs, once the way young people travelled

Rather cute VW Kombis for sale, displayed in a Tourist Information window. There were many, and quite expensive, but brought memories of their popularity as surfer/back-packer transport in our younger days. Not that I actually ever rode in one!

other sizes: small medium original auto

Thanks to all comments. I really thought they were a peculiarly Aussie thing, although VW"s which are NOT. They were, and still are a bit, all around our beaches and long haul holiday places, usually filled with young surfers and holiday makers. So glad to learn they were the same in other countries. Gill, you have a gem! How good.

I always wanted a VW van! Had a ride in one once when hitchhiking across Canada. V

I envy Gill, wished I bought one when they were still affordable. I do have a tiny toy model. Nice find, Barbara, and cute shot! V

Ah yes, you would see a lot of them around here in the sixties.

Have traveled in one of those, although not with a surf board! Neat shot of their current incarnation. V

We still have one, tho' a later version. Had some wonderful travels in it. Neat shot with this one seemingly hanging in mid air :) V

Definitely a blast from the past! And I agree, seems pretty pricey.

Totally agree, Laine!

Considering the real thing was only 700 pounds new back in the 60's this trinket is quite overpriced :))
