Gallipoli Peninsula

The Gallipoli Peninsula is the heart of the ANZAC legend involving Australians and New Zealanders, part of the Allied Forces in WWI, leaving 130,000 men dead, a third from the Allied forces and the rest Turkish. We travelled by bus to base ourselves in the small fishing town of Eceabat on the northwestern narrowest part of the strait known as the Dardanelles.

We joined a small half day tour of the ANZAC sites.

Eceabat, an unassuming fishing town with humble working boats in the small harbour, was enlivened for us by the simple Saturday market and a short distance down the coast we found the delightful fishing village of Kilitbahir complete with small pretty mosque and a large ancient castle.
