"Established in 1841 by three Hawker brothers, who came from Hampshire, England, this was the most northern settlement in South Australia and the isolation required a high level of self sufficiency. As well as purchasing the section of land where most of the buildings stand today, there was a licence for much of the surrounding countryside - a total of 267 square miles." Tourist brochure
Bungaree is still an active sheep station and remains in the ownership of the 5th generation of the Hawker family.
