Tarawa 27

Kiribati, Central Pacific

A source of income for some villagers comes from the sale of kaokioki, which is fermented coconut sap. Here it is being offered for sale at only one Australian dollar for a bottle. Guaranteed to give you a hangover the next day - and probably a sick stomach if you are not used to it!

Nikon D100 , AF-S Nikkor 24-120mm 1:3.5-5.6 G ED
f/10, 1/400, 80mm full exif

other sizes: small medium original auto

hahaha ... definitely not kaokioki, it called 'te beneka' meaning chilli; it is fresh toddy mixed with chilli to use as some kind of sauce to fish, very tasty; it's an alternative for vinegar for the Kiribati people, especially who live in western countries
