My VW Passat station wagon was just one month old (I’d bought it on 25 November). It took two days to extricate it from this mess. Getting the roller shutter door and garage frame off the roof was the hardest part as we had to do it all by hand. The body was battered and the windscreen was broken, but we used it to evacuate ourselves from Darwin to Sydney and then onto Adelaide (5,500 kms without a windscreen was not a comfortable drive!) where the insurance company declared it a write-off.
