In North Korea, there are no advertisements or billboards anywhere (except for one on the road from the airport) because there is no need to advertise products or services in a communist regime where everything is supplied by the government. There are however many large portraits of the Great Leader President Kim Il Sung and the Great Leader General Kim Jung Il on the streets of North Korea’s towns and cities, along its highways and in public buildings.
This shot was taken in the Kimilsunglia-Kimjungilia Exhibition Hall in Pyongyang. I have not cropped it too closely as I wanted to leave the man in the bottom left hand corner of the frame, so that the scale of the portrait is clear. This particular portrait was made out of thousands of mosaic tiles.
