My patch is centered on a pretty unimpressive hill surrounded by flat farmland. As you can see, a lot of the hill has been quarried. However, this site is a real gem with many of the other images in my galleries being taken there. The hill is noteable for its history, which dates back at least 500,000 years. The Romans were the first to use the rock from this locality around AD46 when they used the granite to help construct the Fosseway. It was also a meeting place for noblemen and Kings. Stories tell of a particulary gruesome act in December 1124: a trial took place there that resulted in some harsh punishment being handed out to the hapless prisoners: 44 men were hanged, while six more had their eyes gouged out and their testicles cut off.
